Since man has lived on this planet wood has been an important fuel. In Cumbria we are blessed with some fine woodlands and with the spiralling price of fossil fuels and a big reduction in its availability there is an ever greater need for renewable and low carbon energy. Wood fuel has again come in to its own.
Renewable energy fuel sources can reduce your heating bills by up to 50% compared with LPG.

Not all of us are able to harvest, season and store the quantities of natural wood we need for our energy requirements. Fortunately, some forward-thinking companies have developed compressed wood in log and pellet form and this is now available here in Cumbria. These are made from sawdust and shavings left over after wood processing. Fuel logs burn like ordinary wood except very much hotter, giving out twice the heat of ordinary logs. Pellets and Fuel logs also have many other advantages: they have a much lower moisture content and are compact to store. Even the small amounts of residual ash produced can be used as an excellent garden fertiliser. The regular size of pellets allows them to be used in fully automatic stoves and boilers.

The government has now published consultation documents on proposals for a Renewable Heat Incentive scheme where users of biomass boilers will be paid 9p/KwHr for 15 years for the extra costs involved in installing this equipment.
Full details of these proposals can be found at:
www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/consultations/rhi/rhi.aspx
There is now a clear incentive and pathway to the greater use of biomass, Cumbria Green Fuels and our suppliers will be part of this and we will be seeking full accreditation under the scheme.
